Gendia Adventist Academy Receives School Supplies

Audrey Alumande, a Reach the Children representative in Kenya, arrived at Gendia Adventist Academy with a box of much-needed school supplies. Gendia Adventist Academy is a nursery school with one teacher and 24 children ranging in age from 2 to 6 years old. She introduced herself to the teacher and asked the children to pick up some papers she had noticed littering the ground in front of the classroom before they received their gifts. The children trooped outside and the cleaning exercise began. Afterwards, they returned to the classroom and each child received a brand new pencil. They were so excited!

As the teacher looked in the box of supplies she noticed a bottle of glue and lifted it up for the children to see. She asked, "Children can you remember what this is?" They replied, "Glue!" They had run out of glue a long time before and were so glad to have a new supply. They were also excited to receive boxes of colored pencils because it meant they would be able to complete their coloring exams.

It is difficult for many to imagine being without essential school supplies such as glue or colored pencils, but students in Africa often go without many of these items. The generous donations made through Reach the Children are brightening classrooms in Africa and making a difference in the lives of students.
